The Moon rules the number 2 — the feminine principle, the realm of emotion, reflection, and relationship. As the Earth's mirror, the Moon is receptive where the Sun is radiating: it illuminates not with its own light but by reflecting the light of another. In numerology, 2 governs the dyad, the first relationship, the awareness that I exist in relation to a You.

The Moon's cycle of 28 days maps onto the 2 of duality — waxing and waning, light and shadow. The crescent form is a symbol of receptivity, the curved vessel that catches what the Sun pours forth.
