The master numbers
Almost every total in numerology gets reduced to a single digit. Three numbers are the exception. When a calculation lands on 11, 22 or 33, it stops there — these are the master numbers, and reducing them would throw away what makes them significant.
Each master number is the high-voltage octave of the single digit beneath it. The 11 is a 2 turned up until intuition becomes vision; the 22 is a 4 with the power to build on a scale the 4 only dreams of; the 33 is a 6 whose care has expanded past the family to the world. That extra voltage is not a prize. Master numbers are widely held to be as difficult as they are powerful — the potential arrives with a matching pressure, and many people who carry one spend the first half of life operating at the ordinary digit instead.

When does a master number apply?
A master number counts only when the total lands on 11, 22 or 33 during the reduction — not when the digits merely appear in your birth date. If your Life Path sums to 29 → 2 + 9 = 11, you stop at 11. You do not go on to 2.
The one common exception is the Challenge numbers, which are always reduced to single digits. Note also that 33 appears as a Life Path only rarely — it requires a very particular birth date.
